I'm a Proud Eagle Scout
I have been involved with the Boy Scouts for most of my life, which gave me the opportunity to go camping on a regular basis, develop my personal skills, and participate in organized service. Scouting has been an important part of my family's life: my father is an Eagle Scout and my grandfather, a life-long Scouter, received the prestigious Silver Beaver award.
In the summer of 2016, I was able to plan and conduct my own service project as part of earning the Eagle Scout rank. For my project, I organized a group of volunteer Scouts to assist in cleaning the former home of Spy Hop, a youth media organization that was located in the Rio Grande area of Salt Lake City. Our main tasks included removing several hundred square feet of window decorations and piles of on-site trash so the space could be returned to the lease holders. This work was important because Spy Hop, as a non-profit organization, had limited personnel and time for such cleanup in addition to moving into their new facilities and continuing their program operations.
I believe that my experiences in the Boy Scouts have helped me learn to develop my own talents and to work productively with others, both as a leader and as a volunteer.
